and let's talk -- let's talk about the issues. >> the senator stood his ground arguing big donors don't give money to be nice. >> there is a reason why these people are putting huge amounts of money into our political system. >> reporter: clinton said sanders was too focused on what she called one street. >> madam secretary, it is not one street. the business model of wall street is fraud. it's fraud. >> reporter: still unknown is what clinton said in speeches she made to financial firms for $200,000 a pop. >> are you willing to release the transcripts of all of your paid speeches? >> i will look into it. i don't know the status but i will certainly look into it. >> reporter: last night she turned the tables on him. >> if we get into labels, i don't think it was particularly aggressive to vote against the brady bill five times. i don't think it was progressive to vote to give gunmakers and sellers immunity.

her the establishment pick she had this response. >> senator sanders is the only person who i think would characterize me a woman running to be the first woman president as exemplifying the establishment. >> reporter: but the moderators noted that even democrats who support clinton worry that her e-mail controversy could hurt her down the road. >> are you 100% confident that nothing is going to come of this fbi investigation. >> i am 100% confident. >> reporter: the clinton camp is feeling a little better after the e-mails after the state department classified of two of former secretary of state colin powell e-mails. this shows she's in good company. but republicans say there's a big difference between his two e-mails and her 1500. john dickerson is with us from washington.

>> good morning. >> hillary clinton was fierce. she was forceful and she went after bernie sanders, talking about an artful smear, attacks by insinuation. will it work or was it risky? >> that was very interesting. she is right, essentially. bernie sanders' argument is she is compromised by all of the money and donations she gets. now the question is does it make political sense for her to do that? it showed her being forceful and fierce, but what do regular people hear when they hear somebody gets a lot of money from a certain industry. they think maybe there is a connection there, so is it really a smear for sanders to bring that up or is he saying, simply, that because of the donations, she won't go as far as he will? that is something we will have to find out in the coming days. she is hanging a lamp on this issue. and it will continue to be talked about. >> bernie sanders seemed stunned but on the other hand he didn't take it lying down. what are voters in new hampshire saying about how he did last night? >> i haven't talked to a lot of them overnight, but the --

message and the argument is basically that he will go farther than she will because he is not compromised by those donations. so i think that, basically, they both were forceful advocates for their positions. right now the positions in new hampshire are helping bernie sanders. >> john, there was a huge debate last night over the definition of the word progressive. this from a party that once struggled to avoid the word liberal. what is going on here exactly? >> well, it's who has got the real, true religion. hillary clinton was quite artful in her response to that. it seems to me if you were trying to outdo the other on who is more faithful to the cause, you would just stand up and say, hey, i'm a liberal. because, as you say, that is really the word that many who believe in those sets of ideas still hold on to and think there is nothing wrong about that and want to be proud about it. but they were basically trying to put each other in the corner and that was a really interesting exchange. essentially about what is at the heart of this race, who is truer to the cause.

republican, marco rubio, up seven in one survey, six in another. judging by all of the attacks rubio faced since arriving in iowa, you know other republicans believe rubio is rising. everyone else is either standing still or losing ground. and with only four days to go before the new hampshire primary, pressure is mounting. and cracks and temperament are forming. >> we are going to knock the [ bleep ] out of isis. i don't give a damn. they are ripping the [ bleep ] out of the sea. you can tell them to go [ muted ] themselves. >> reporter: a profane, but nevertheless funny donald trump energized a standing room only crowd on thursday night, after cramming four mix and mingle events into a single day. >> fit was the most frenetic pace of his whole campaign. by the time trump hit the stage -- >> i've done five of these

do you think this is fun? >> reporter: -- he appeared winded. >> do you think this is fun? >> reporter: ted cruz also grew exasperated by a question of his duel canadian citizenship. >> sir, sir? okay, next question. >> reporter: chris christie teed off on a voter in keen. >> i don't understand a damn thing you just said. >> reporter: marco rubio is the candidate in motion. >> the next president, senator marco rubio. >> the first-time senator faced questions about his experience, or lack of it. >> no one running for president has presidential experience. being president is nothing like being governor. it's nothing like being a senator. >> reporter: one possible source of anxiety? voter volatility. 59% of likely republican voters remain undecided. trump's trouble? 37% say they would not vote for him under any circumstance. even so, trump pledged if he made it all the way he would give up his lavish lifestyle, even golf. >> i don't think i would see anything. i just want to stay in the white house and work my ass off and make great deals, right?

who is going to lead? >> reporter: with trump and rubio leading here, something else may be happening. an end to grassroots organizing and face-to-face courtship of new hampshire voters. compared to john kasich, chris christie, ted cruz, and jeb bush, rubio and trump have devoted far less time and money to old-fashioned new hampshire style politics. that could be a source of frustration for candidates not named trump or rubio. >> all right. thank you so much, major. jeb bush is looking for a comeback after finishing sixth in iowa. the ex-florida governor and his mother, former first lady barbara bush, spoke with us on thursday in new hampshire. her first tv interview since the campaign started and they were quick to show their criticism of donald trump. >> i don't think a president would ever shout profanities in his speech. >> who did that? >> your buddy. that never would have been acceptable in the age of reagan or my dad.

york city's financial district. we've at the scene a few marks from wall street. good morning. >> reporter: still a very active scene here in lower manhattan. take a look behind me at the damage left after a crane collapsed earlier this morning, leaving three injured and one dead. firefighters are on the scene trying to find out what caused the crane to come crashing down. we're getting reports of a gas leak in the area. we spotted several sniffing dogs and we're trying to confirm that part of the information. new york city mayor bill bill de blasio is on his way to give us an update. a lot of people headed to work this morning were telling me this is every new york pedestrian's worse nightmare, morning rush hour, evening rush hour that a crane would come crashing down. it had happened.

story develops. surveillance video captures blake fitzgerald and brittany harper committing carjackings. their run ended this morning during a shootout with police. they committed crimes in three different states. david is in pensacola where the chase ended. good morning. >> reporter: authorities from new orleans to florida were looking for them. overnight, 200 yards behind me there was a police chase and then gun fire. the manhunt for blake fitzgerald and his girlfriend brittany harper came to a violent end in the florida panhandle this morning. nearly five days after the pair allegedly kidnapped, stole and robbed their way across the gulf coast.

victim was kyle dease, 26-year-old says kyle forced him into a car and kidnapped him on sunday. describe the ride to me. >> i was trying to stay calm. i was being sarcastic and trying to crack jokes. >> reporter: an hour later the suspects dumped him. shortly after that fitzgerald kidnapped a woman inside of her own home. the couple allegedly forced the woman into her car but let her go a few miles down the road taking her suv. on monday surveillance video picked up the pair more than 250 miles aware in perry, georgia. the video appeared to show fitzgerald robbing and abducting a female clerk at a convenience store. the clerk was released unharmed. >> there's in reason to harm them. even if you don't harm the people, you're mentally messing them up. >> reporter: the duo was started in dustin on thursday. they both have a criminal

fitzgerald spent time in jail for first degree burglary in 2014. harper pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in 2010. so the female suspect was shot but we're told she will survive. as for the male suspect who died. he told one of his victims he would do anything not to go back to jail. for the first time in eight years, the unemployment rate is below 5%. the labor department announced this morning that it fell to 4.9% last month, 151,000 new jobs were created last month. but tens of thousands of education, transportation and temporary workers wrs cut loose. the final preparations are being made this morning for sunday's super bowl. there's a huge security presence in the bay area. the fbi says there's in credible safety threat. teams finished their final practices yesterday. ahead jeff glor shows us how celebrities are crashing the fan frenzy. you can't listen to the

in crime beat... the district attorney's office has released a report that found an officer involved shooting was justified. according to the report... sparks police detectives shot and killed james bowman back in september of 20-14 near sutro and ninth streets. when they confronted him, the d-a's office says bowman refused to surrender and walked toward detectives while removing a loaded handgun from his waistband. he passed away at the hospital and an autopsy revealed he had amphetamines and methamphetamine in his blood. and reno police are looking for a suspect after a robbery this week. the man entered a convenience store at around 3-30 monday and got three money orders before leaving in a vehicle. he is about 6 feet tall... with a camouflage jacket, dark pants and a black hat. if you know who he is, call police at 3-3-4 21-88.

in crime beat... the nevada highway patrol is investigating a fatal hit and run in capital yesterday. carson city sheriff's office deputies responded to reports of a hit and run just before 8 o'clock, near brown street and edmonds drive... where they learned the suspect vehicle was a yellow ford pickup. shortly after, deputies found that pickup at a gas station on college parkway near research way. as officers approached... the suspect rammed the police s-u-v with his car and sped off eastbound on college parkway. after passing airport road, the suspect lost control and crashed onto carson airport property. the driver -- described as a hispanic man -- was ejected from the truck as it rolled - and killed. investigators say the ford was reported stolen about 4 o-clock yesterday afternoon -- in the same area as the initial hit and run. college parkway, from airport road to nye lane was closed overnight.
